Psychotherapy as dynamical choreography
Therapy sequences experiences so a different transition can be lived—not only understood. In lived experienceInsight matters, but insight becomes change when the nervous system survives a different next step and can find it again outside the room.
Definition
Dynamical choreography is Lecture 29’s overarching view of psychotherapy. Attention, emotion, body state, memory, behavior, meaning and relationship are arranged in time so that a habitual next state is no longer inevitable and a new route can be experienced under conditions that allow learning.
Flow Hijacked lens
The therapist does not merely describe the vector field; the therapeutic relationship becomes part of it. Shame can be followed by tolerable contact rather than concealment, fear by regulated approach rather than automatic escape, and insight by embodied rehearsal rather than remaining an elegant sentence.
