FLOW HIJACKED · FOR FAMILY & LOVED ONES

Someone I love is struggling with addiction.

You do not have to choose between rescuing the person and abandoning them. Begin with what you can observe, check danger, offer one step and protect your own functioning too.

Understanding is not consent to danger or harm. Love does not make you the whole treatment system. This resource does not replace assessment, care or emergency services.

THE FIRST MINUTE

Four distinctions before the next conversation.

The aim is not to control another person. It is to reduce danger, speak in language that can land and know what you are willing to do—and what you are not.

01

Say what you can observe

Name the change without diagnosing motive: missed work, intoxication, disappearing, money, sleep or a broken agreement.

02

Check immediate danger

Overdose, dangerous withdrawal, violence, severe confusion or suicide risk need direct human and emergency help—not a better conversation.

03

Make one concrete invitation

Offer one reachable action: call together, get assessed, attend one meeting or speak with one agreed person.

04

Keep one enforceable boundary

A boundary states what you will do to protect safety and functioning. It is not a threat you cannot carry out.

IF DANGER IS PRESENT NOW

Do not stay with an internet page. Move to human support routes or the appropriate emergency service.
